Janet’s friend Cheryl now offers
a venue for her to teach painting based in her studio on the fabulous
island of Mallorca. The views are wonderful, the hospitality superb
and the climate is a joy! What more could you want from a few
days away doing something creative?
Everyone knows that Janet likes to concentrate
on making things look realistic – that’s what trompe
l’oeil painting is. To ‘trick the eye’ you need
to learn how to draw and paint things to make them look real.
Spanish fruit and vegetables straight from the local market are
ideal subjects for practising how to mix colours accurately and
how to deal with shadows and sunlight. It’s not magic, painting.
It’s just like writing. If you can write your name then
you can paint. You just need to learn what it is that you are
actually seeing in front of you and make the connection between
your eye and your hand.
This course is not structured but because
groups are so small Janet will focus on whatever aspect of painting
you like – landscape, portrait, still-life, or her particular
forte – trompe l’oeil.
Groups are welcome and Cheryl can arrange
accommodation locally if you email Judy Lindsell - judylindsell@hotmail.com
Cheryl herself provides delicious lunches
eaten on the terrace of her lovely house which she and her husband
have recently built on land that used to be a fruit farm.

The following letter was written by a student of Janet's, Anne
Hunt:
Just west of Bodmin, but a world away from the eternal summertime
traffic jams of the nearby A30, is Higher Grogley Farm, the home
and studio/workplace of acclaimed muralist and trompe l'oeil exponent
Janet Shearer and family. In a beautiful spot alive with birdsong
and the purling of a stream (whose spring supplies the house with
water), nature is up close and personal, with a medley of dogs,
cats, chickens and horses and an abundance of fresh eggs and vegetables
straight from the garden. It's not uncommon to find a guinea fowl
perched on your car, or to be periodically startled by the eldritch
screaming of peacocks.....read
the rest.
