Summer In February

Posted on June 13th, 2013

I did all the background paintings for the film Summer in February and many of the ‘works in progress’ being apparently painted by Laura and Harold Knight (Hattie Morahan and Shaun Dingwall) and AJ Munnings (Dominic Cooper). Incidentally, one or two of the ‘foreground paintings’ e.g. in the Royal Academy scenes and ‘The Morning Ride’, were not done by me!
The film was mostly made in Cornwall and paintings were done in my studio, often at high speed as briefed by the production designer. If you would like to see the film about the Art in the film, click on this link : https://www.dropbox.com/s/62jevyeg9s4cbt5/Art%20Behind%20the%20Film%20w%20Russell%20v2_h264_3000Kbps_720p_001.mov?v=0rc-s
and forgive the silly hat! It was very cold when I was being interviewed!

New mural

Posted on June 12th, 2013

I have started a new mural – painting the wall of a lovely swimming pool in Cornwall. It will include a ‘trompe l’oeil’ sea view – a ‘marble’ terrace overlooking sea and distant mountains, and some life size portraits of my clients grandchildren.

Underwater progress

Posted on January 31st, 2013

Work is going on in my studio to paint a ‘trompe l’oeil’ triptych giving the impression we are looking into a large underwater fish tank. This painting has been commissioned for a property in Majorca. Keep watching for progress!

New project

Posted on January 12th, 2013

Today we started work on a triptych destined for Majorca. The idea is to make believe that three recessed arches are views into an aquarium with exotic fish.
They are small, medium and large, the largest canvas being approx three metres by four. All painted in Golden acrylics on Polymural. Watch this space for illustrations coming tomorrow! Read More...

Artists aren't vain! They just feel happy that the model doesn't mind how long the painting takes!

Have you ever thought that artists must be very vain if they paint themselves?
Let me explain: artists are the only people who don’t mind how long it takes! If you are your own model there’s no fidgeting, no complaining, no guilt…. just an endless opportunity to explore every wrinkle and nuance of colour.
I have done it many times and found it fascinating!
Here’s my latest! Read More...

I’ve decided to write about the progress of a mural from concept/design to installation on a wall – in this case, the wall of a well known paint supplier in Dublin – Colortrend. Read More...
